Regions of Alsace

The regions of Alsace are equally divided into French and German territories and it is one of the few areas in the French country where the region has an equitable distribution between those who speak French and those who speak German. The regions of Alsace are geographically positioned between mid-eastern and Northeastern France. When you move out of north from Alsace you can go to Germany, while the east of Alsace is flanked by the Rhine river, Germany being on the opposite bank, to the south of Alsace is Switzerland and the region of French-Comte and to the west of Alsace lies the breath taking Vosges mountains and the region of Lorraine.

The principal cities of Alsace are Colmar, Mulhouse and the regional capital Strasbourg. Strasbourg is one of the most important regions of Alsace as it has been bestowed the honor of being the headquarters of the European Parliament. Nearly all the regions of Alsace have an admixture of France-German cultures. The fall out is that most of the inhabitants speak French but with a distinct tone of German accent. This admixture of culture finds its expression in the cuisine as well. The cuisine has a blend of France and German way of cooking.
